Wayfarers Chapel Wedding (A Study in Pink… Green, and Blue)

I am an introvert. An unapologetic, low-talking, low-key introvert. My photos deliver my message and I love what I do. I may not be the bubbly, high-energy social media presence some people have come to expect of wedding photographers, but I am devoted to building genuine rapport with everyone I meet. I am far from the loudest person in the room, but I am always reading the emotions around me to translate them into the vast majority of my photos. I am not clique-y with photographers that group by camera brand, gender, or ethnicity (sorry, they exist!). Rather, I embrace my growing up in an environment that celebrated diversity. My inspiration is not so much other weddings, but real life.

I love a photo that is well-timed and technically sound. Some historically recognized photos and institutions known for their stringent criteria, such as National Geographic and Magnum Photos, exemplify these traits.

Naturally, given the opportunity to be myself, and truly just myself at a wedding, allows me to shine my brightest. I fell in love with the this day and the photos I was able to produce. There were no other voices chiming in for photos or video, no reenactments. This is triple-distilled, single-origin Stephen Tang, not the blended stuff. If you’re a storyteller, this is what you live for – sitting front row and center to perform your craft.

Wedding in Laguna Hills + Mission Viejo

Sometimes, it’s a little bit of chaos being a part of the bridal prep. From the second I arrive, I’m already working up a sweat in a dress shirt and neck tie and I dive right into anticipating reactions while making sure not to be in way of the twelve other people in the hotel suite. However, when something happens like the bride picks up a mirror and sees her make up for the first time or when she gets bustled into the her dress at long last, time seems to slow down just a bit. It’s emotional – what photojournalists thrive on. It’s a real wedding moment. Most of all, it’s a whole lot of happy and it’s great to be there to enjoy it with her.

Marina del Rey – LMU + California Yacht Club

Some days you steal a few moments wherever you can find them, other days like these, you have some extra time and a relatively small bridal party, allowing us the luxury of making plenty of portraits. Bride being a fan of candids and portraiture scores bonus points.

In recent posts, I feature a lot of walking together down the aisle shots. Not that I don’t capture first kisses, but it’s the photo everyone and their mother gets. I really like photographing a couples’ first march back together as a newly wedded couple. Also, it’s a front row and center seat giving you an exclusive privilege.

Weather and light in Marina del Rey are a bit too perfect. I suppose I still have my East coast mentality, expecting patchy clouds, humidity, and who knows what else.
